@ George O. Tsobanoglou

George O. Tsobanoglou  has developed and directs the Sociology of Work and Professions Laboratory at the Sociology Department, University of the Aegean, Mytilini, Greece  aiming at the development of the field of sociology of work and professions with publications, conferences and various other activities since 2002.  He also Coordinates the Graduate Program on Management of Cultural Organizations of the Hellenic Open University.  He cooperates closely with the LEED Program of the OECD, Paris, since 1995 on issues of local development, employment cooperation, the social economy and social innovation and he acts as an evaluator of European Union, Cypriot and Greek State Scholarships Foundation, social science programs.  He was during the 2010-11 year a Visiting Fellow at the Centre of Urban Research and Development Studies (CURDS), School of Geography, Politics and Sociology, University of Newcastle, UK. He recently presented a paper on “The Worth of Social Economy” at a public hearing organized by the Greens at the European Parliament, pending publication.   He edited the volume Sociotechnical Dynamics of Participation and Empowerment, Verlag fur Gesellschaftsarchitektur, GmbH, Hildesheim (Goteborg Papers) and he currently edits the papers from the Athens Conference in Sustaining Communities in times of Crisis: Issues and Prospects, University of Central Greece, Athens. He organizes the RC26 program for the International Institute Sociology and the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS), Uppsala at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), Delhi, India  this Feb, 16-19 and the World Forum of the ISA in Buenos Aires, August 2012.George worked previously as staff researcher at the Institute of Social Research, Oslo. He received his PhD from Carleton University, Ottawa. Post-doctoral research at the London School of Economics and teaching/research at Carleton University, Ottawa, the University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, and at the Sociology Department, Aegean University, Mytilin, Greece. His main areas of interest and specialisation include: European Integration, Social Policy, Gender, Migration, Childhood Isues and Social Inclusion, Social Economy and Information Society, EU enlargement and the Euro-Mediterranean partnership. He has collaborated with many Universities, Institutions, NGOs.
