@   Gloria Pirzio  is Professor Emerita of Political Sociology at the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. She was professor of the permanent staff at the Superior School for Public Administration, since 1994 to 1997.  Since 2012 she is member of the “Consiglio Superiore dei Beni Culturali e Ambientali” of the MIBAC.   Her research activity has mainly focused on the analysis of the organisations and lobbying groups related to the political system: her first interest focused on the analysis of trade unions’ movements (Gli studi di relazioni industriali in Italia, Ed. Comunità, 1972; La politica della Confindustria, Liguori, 1976; Teorie del sindacalismo e delle relazioni industriali, 1979)  Then her production dealt with the theoretical problems of political representation and the comparison between the different international experiences (L’Europa degli interessi, 1997), the analysis of public policies (Energia e politica, ESI, 1990) and leadership (I dirigenti sindacali italiani, Bari, De Donato, 1982); Lobbying e rappresentanza della società civile nell’Unione europea, Roma, EuRoma, 2010, 2° edition 2012).  In the last decades she studied the problems of transiction from the commmunist system to the market economy in East Europe countries (Nazionalismo e identità collettive, Napoli, Liguori, 2001, with M, D’Amato, A. Montanari; La fine del sistema sovietico e i Paesi Baltici. Il caso dell’Estonia, Milano, FrancroAngeli, 2003, with A. Montanari; La transizione postcomunista: le terre di mezzo, Ucraina e Bielorussia, Milano, FrancoAngeli, 2007).  She was also interested in the analysis of the relationship between political and economic élites in the development processes (Politica ed economia: strategie di un capitalismo maturo. Il caso del Progetto Galileo, Milano, FrancoAngeli, 2007; Elites e processi decisionali tra politica ed economia.
