Kiran Prasad is Professor and Head, Department of Communication and Journalism, Sri Padmavati Mahila University, Tirupati, India. She was Commonwealth Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for International Communication Research, Institute of Communication Studies, University of Leeds, UK and Canadian Studies Research Fellow at the School of Journalism and Communication, Carleton University, Canada. She is the youngest ever recipient of the ‘State Best Teacher Award’ from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India and recipient of several national awards for academic excellence. She has researched extensively in India, Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Middle East, USA, Canada and the UK on the interrelations between communication and development studies. She has published twenty books and over hundred research papers. Her recent books include New Media and Pathways to Social Change: Shifting Development Discourses (2013), Media Law in India (Kluwer Law International, 2011), Communication for Development: Reinventing Theory and Action (2009), e-Journalism: New Media and News Media (2009), Media Law and Ethics: Readings in Communication Regulations (2008) and HIV and AIDS: Vulnerability of Women in Asia and Africa (2008). She is Series Editor of Empowering Women Worldwide published by the Women Press, New Delhi. She is also Country Director for India of the Asian Congress for Media & Communication (ACMC), Philippines, an international professional organization in the fields of media, communication and language education.
